Re: Topic Tuesday // Creating and maintaining social connections // Tues 20 Nov, 7pm AEDT

Oops missed @Zoe7👋

Re: Topic Tuesday // Creating and maintaining social connections // Tues 20 Nov, 7pm AEDT

Are there other people in your life that you feel you can disclose to @Zoe7?

I think it can be tough when families are the one's stigmatising us. I have one aunt in particular who makes horrible comments. It is important to set boundaries with these relatives about what is and isn't acceptable language surrounding your mental health or illness.

I have tried with my GP and psychologist but even there it gets really hard @jess_27

Re: Topic Tuesday // Creating and maintaining social connections // Tues 20 Nov, 7pm AEDT

@jess_27 Yes I have to admit that my relationships have improved and I couldn't keep going on the way I was as I was out of control so yes.

It is very hard. You are doing so well to even try. 🙂

Re: Topic Tuesday // Creating and maintaining social connections // Tues 20 Nov, 7pm AEDT

I might move on to my next question!

During periods of mania I can also become really social, which is difficult for others to keep up with. Whilst manic, I often expect a lot from people and demand their attention. One red flag for me that my socialising may be taking a toll is when I realise I can’t remember the last time I had a meal at home.

Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing? Can you be too social?

Welcome @Teej! Glad you have joined us!

@Teej I suppose having a friendship that lasts the distance .... through thick and thin. I have not been able to do that for years and since my mi it has been impossible. I would love a friendship but one with freedoms as I don't like being tied down with expectations.

I think one of the most important things with conditions that be destructive like Bipolar is to not only ask for forgiveness from others but also to forgive ourselves. 🙂
